Well I completely failed to get my April submission in on time, in fact all I managed to get around to was the facial side of the clip you see above. But I got another chance today to put some time in and work on some of the body motion. It’s still far from finished, but at least it was extremely fun and helped the day zoom by. When I get another chance I’ll have to sit down and tidy up a lot of the motion and put a second pass on the facial stuff — most people say not to do the facial stuff first, but I’m fine with doing a first and second pass on it (minus the eyes) as it helps me find the character and the motivation for their movements.
I’ve also had the opportunity to do a lot more animation at work over the last few weeks. Can’t say anything about it quite yet, but I’ll surely show off some of the work once the title has been announced/released. Let me know what you think

Nice man, I’d steer clear of any pointing motions though. It’s a common mistake when acting through animation, you’d probably find if you acted it out in front of a camera a bunch of times you might do that at first but as you get more confident with the scene and start performing it more naturally you probably wouldn’t use those pointing motions. That is unless he’s is literally pointing at something but they’re “usually” a bad idea.
Another thing is that fingers rarely have a lot of overlap, Even shaking your hand around you’ll notice that they don’t flop around a lot. You can get away with a bit of it since it’s stylized but just be aware of it. Especially
Watch that broken neck too, his head is straight up and down abut his neck is pitched forward.
Keep it up, can’t wait to see more
Cheers man. Yeah, I wouldn’t use nearly as much overlap if I was animating a realistic character, but he’s just so gangly that he needs a bit of flop. And yeah, his neck is a pain in the ass. Just a bad rig that doesn’t allow enough “breaking”.
As for the pointing, another idea I was having was to have him show his thumb (as if to count off who he lies to) and as he pulls out the index finger to count number two he uses it to tap into his palm.
I’ll keep having a play and see what happens.
